10.5 mile ride vs $4.00/gallon

Well, I've chose the former.

I cannot give myself all the credit to decide I could ride to work. I was thinking it was too far, but when I learned that one of the nurses that works at La Clinica who probably is close or over 60 years old (she told me she has a grandchild that is 23-so I just surmised that's roughly how old she is) - she rides from Jacksonville, probably a good 6-8mile ride. So I was inspired and now have completed my first week at riding to work. It takes about 50-60min each way. So I get up leave around 6:45am, get there around 7:45, wash off (haven't used the shower yet, we have one, but just good deodorant- hey, I'm probably cleaner than many of the patients I see!). Then I get ready at work. See I drove to work on Monday, took all my changes of clothes and cosmetic items there. Then I just have to bring my lunch in my back pack with my bike lock and water. It's working great so far!

So for those that are getting tired of the gas prices...there is an alternative!

Another thought I heard about today is one of the employees at La Clinica bought a MoPed (sp?). Now that doesn't get the heart rate up, but it is better on the wallet (after you purchase it of course). Anyways, from one inspired person to another...You could do it too! =)

"All Weather" Day

Here is what we did today:

1. I got up and decided I'd run the 3.5 miles to the tanning salon I've been going to so I'm not stark white for Shannon's Wedding

2. Tobin met me after I finished (with a car) and then we went and bought a bike lock.

3. Saw a random sign that there was a blood drive going on at the Red Cross Today. So we decided...we'll give blood! So Tobin and I successfully donated 1 unit of blood each. The staff there thought it was cute that the "couple" was donating together. =)

3. Then we left on a 10 mile bike ride to the rock climbing gym in Medford. It was cool, but partly cloudy weather, a bit windy but thankfully we were going with the wind.

4. Climbed, bouldered, etc. We realized we are both SO WEAK!!! It's been too long, so we decided to get the month membership, so that'll hopefully get us back into climbing shape!

5. After climbing for a couple hours, we looked outside and what was the weather doing...SNOWING!!!! Yes, your eyes do not deceive you...It is nearly May and it's snowing in Medford!!! So thankfully Tobin and I had stuck in our rain jackets, so we weren't miserable. It was actually better to have snow than rain!

6. On our 10 mile ride home, about mile 5 Tobin's tire goes completely flat. But thankfully, I've married a very well prepared husband who has the extra inner tube in the backpack with the appropriate "bike rescue" gear. So I learned how to change a bike tire (good experience to have when I've now decided I'm going to start commuting to work since gas is going to soon be $4/gallon!).--Note while we were changing the tire it started snowing harder!

7. Made it home now, the sun actually was just coming out as we were finishing our ride. Our backs had "bike stripe" on them...all muddy! I wish we could have pictures when we were all covered in white, and then later brown, but you'll just have to use your imagination!

8. Have now enjoyed a yummy dinner, drinking lots of water, and enjoying an episode of Mythbusters before we crash into bed.

...We plan on more fun tomorrow, maybe more rock climbing!!!
Here's to more adventures together!

Here's how we feel about now...

Another "Christy" Crazy Day

I only post this so that others might get a great laugh, yes at my expense, but funny none the less, and we all don't smile enough in our lives, so if I can be that entertainment then, may it be! =)

This morning started as I had a long list of things to get done. I got a load of laundry in before leaving for an eye doctor appointment at 8:30am. I realized as I drove off from the house that I did not have my cell phone. I decided I didn't want to risk being late for a doctor's appointment because I know how hard that is when you are the medical provider waiting for your patient or "being nice" when they do show up late. So no big deal, cell phones aren't essential, I've lived 20 years without one, it should be fine. Off to the appointment I went. After the eye exam, I picked up my bridesmaid dress from the dry cleaners, and then I had to drop the Toyota off at the dealer to turn off the "maintenance required light" and check a rattle that we've been hearing. They said it might be a few hours, so if I could leave it there that would be great, and even better they have a free shuttle to take me to my house. Perfect! I glanced in my purse to make sure I had the extra key chain with the house key on it, it was there! So I got my dress and left with the driver. We dropped another lady off and to my apartment we went. I got out of the van, got my key chain out and saw only my mail box key on the chain. Then I remembered that I had gone running just yesterday and took the house key off the chain and put in my running pants. Usually, I am very good about putting it back, but well this time I didn't. So here I was outside my apartment with no key and no cell phone. God had even given me a second chance because as I was having trouble getting the key out, the driver stopped and said, "Do you need help?" But me being stubborn and thinking I probably had the key somewhere in my purse, smiled and said, "Nope, I'm fine." So I tried to see if I could break in to my apartment, but to no avail. So now, here I am locked out of my apartment, no cell phone. Instead of thinking "what a horrible day" I thought..."here's another funny story I can tell." =)

So I sat in the sun for a few minutes, tried to see if any other window was cracked (no such luck). No one else looked like they were home in the apartments, and I had already knocked on one with no one home. So I thought, I'll just try the one upstairs. So I knocked and a lady answered in her bathrobe. Yeah! I thought, "Thank you Lord!" I told her my dilemma and she looked at me and said, "Sorry, I don't have a land line and my cell phone doesn't have very many minutes on it." Sad day. I thought to myself if someone ever comes to my door (even like now that I know I'm out of cell phone minutes for 2 more days) I'd let that poor crazy girl use my phone. Oh well.

So here I am in hi-heels (don't know why I choose those this morning) with my green bridesmaid dress in a plastic bag stuck outside my apartment. I could wait 5-7 hours till Tobin gets home, but that was a LONG time. Then I thought, there is a doctors' office just down to road on our corner. So I walked there, with my dress (I didn't want it stolen after I've paid so much for it). I walked in and THANKFULLY the receptionist pitied me.

I called the shuttle man, and asked if he could bring my garage door opener from my car and I then could get in. He got a good chuckle and said, "No problem." So I got the mail (the only key in my purse), and read my Nurse Practitioner Magazine in the sun while I waited for my garage door opener. The man came--my savior; and I successfully got into my house!

What an ordeal. Hope you got a good laugh. =)

Until the next saga...

I've Been Tagged....

So I don't usually follow through with these, but this was from my best friend Sarah. And well, I thought it was cute.

Ten Years Ago...I was in my sophomore year of high school (wow, ten years ago!). I was probably planning on what to wear for our small Christian School's Prom. The school was so small we didn't have a Senior Prom it was an "all high school prom." Though only about 50 people were there! I went that year solo, guess there weren't any real "winners" to choose from. I was also very involved with volleyball and basketball, and after sophomore year I was determined to improve my ball handling skills (that's about all you can be great at in basketball if you are 5'2"). So I went to several basketball camps that summer. Lots of fun.

Things on my to-do list today:
Well, seeing as it is the evening...I hope I don't have much more. But 1) Go to a drug rep dinner on diagnosing and treating Bipolar 2) Finish the laundry 3) Go to sleep for work tomorrow

What would I do if I became loaded:
1) Tithe the gross amount and donate to missions, charities, George Fox
2) Pay off all our debt
3) Save money for when we could buy a house
4) Invest and Save

Three of my bad habits:
1) Crunching Ice
2) I'm an organizer in "piles." It use to drive my sister nuts when we shared a room. I organize things in piles then when the pile is stacked up I put them away. I'm still working on the sign Maryanne hung in the room, "After using, put it away." I tend to wait until several things need to be "put away."
3) I tend to "stare" at people and things when I'm in public because I like to watch people.

Five jobs I've had:
1. Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Scooper
2. Video Store Clerk
3. Detailing and Cleaning Homes after completion and construction before the new home went on the market.
4. Mail room packer at a non-profit organization
5. Biology Lab Teaching Assistant

Five things people don't know about me: Hmm....These are also hard for me to think of, but here goes...
1. I got bit on the lip by my dog when I was about 9-10 years old (ok, some know that, but not all). All I remember is sitting in the doctors office and several nurses kept coming in the room asking to look at the bite. They probably were doing more like taking my vital signs, but all I remember was "quit asking me to show you all right! It hurts!"
2. I don't really like to cook, I'd rather bake and make bread or sweet stuff. I've been trying to be the wife that makes dinner, but I'm not very original. Tobin can out cook me any day! I just follow exact instructions on a recipe.
3. I love getting the mail it's like one of the best parts of the day because you might get something fun and special from someone. But I'm learning as you grow older the mail starts being more junk and less fun. Oh well, it still is exciting to see what's inside when you open the box!
4. I have never broken a bone in my body and I have no cavities! Praise the Lord!
5. I love living in climates where there are all four seasons, because I love variety. I never can make decisions well, so even where I love to live reflects my character. Always, something different and exciting.

I tag whoever wants to do this next...no obligation.

Another Great Weekend with Family

"Will someone play trains!" This is most of what Benjamin said all weekend. He loves trains!

Zoey is so alert and learning so much right now. Her big bro and sis keep giving her great ideas that maybe she too can walk around and play so much!

We took Gracie and Benjamin home from church Saturday night. It was fun to have two little ones in the back of our Toyota.

Dad/Grandpa treated us all to brunch at The Original House of Pancakes. Benjamin had to sit by Uncle Tobin!

Fun kid times again!

Can't wait to go back. We should have gotten a group photo, but again we missed that opportunity. The rest of us had lots of fun Saturday night playing Wii Olympics, suffering only minor Wii injuries again. Our family is also so intense and competitive sometimes. But in the end we all love each other...even though during we get all worked up!

Breaking the Water...

We'll even though I'm not pregnant I know how to still be competitive. At Corrine's shower they froze little plastic babies in ice cubes. And we had to Break the Water. It was hiariously funny, I just put the entire thing in my mouth and chewed the ice. Others were using their hands to melt it. Anyways, it made for a good laugh.

Here I am "birthing" the baby...face first!

Homoncles

We're shorter than those lights! But it makes for a fun picture!

All Pregnant, but one stays strong...

We went to lunch at Kadideri (spelling?) It was yummy and great Homoncle Time

The Best Part about Last Weekend with Sarah and Corrine is that the best friends were able to spend quality time together. It was like not a day had passed (though we haven't all been together for a little over 1 1/2 years)! These girls are a very special part of my life. We are all 5'2" and according to Balderdash Homoncle means: person of short stature. So we've adopted the term.

Baby Showers and Snow Showers!

I flew from Dallas to Portland on Friday morning last week. I was such a great weekend to see my best friends - the cute pregnant ladies! Get to see some old friends from Fox (it was like a mini reunion). Having quality Homoncle Time with my two best friends. I didn't expect it to snow though! Saturday AM I awoke in Sarah's house, looked outside to see what kind of weather I'd be running in, and saw snow on the ground! Then it was snowing while I was running!!! Crazy!
I should have taken the picture earlier, but you can kind of see some snow across the street.

Cori, Andrea, Corrine (due May 1st), Sarah (due July), Me, and Aimee

The two pregnant ladies!

"Best Friend" Onesies Abbie and Baby K can wear together at Christmas time! =)

Tex-o-centric

I don't know if I really have to say much. But while we were in Dallas, we tried to get the Texan experience. And I think we succeeded. Tobin said the conference went well, I had a good times seeing some friends (for a brief time), and I even got to go to a very interesting anatomy lecture on the Thorax (your chest wall). So here's some of "Texas." And Yes, that is a waffle I had for Breakfast at the Hotel in the shape of Texas (sorry it's backwards, I didn't notice while I was eating it).

Barbeque Ribs, Chicken, Burgers, Yum! Good ol' MEAT, GREASE, and BBQ in Texas!
